The artistic director of the 3rd berlin biennale is Ute Meta
Bauer, Founding Director of the Office For Contemporary Art Norway in
Oslo and Professor of Theory, Practice, and Transfer of Contemporary
Art at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
Regarding the focus of this year's biennial, one can
read in the press release:
"For the third edition of this young biennial – embedded
in the context of the fundamental urban restructuring processes that
has so shaped the city since the end of the east-west conflict –
Berlin should serve as a general reference for the presentation of a
broadly applied international artistic spectrum of visual art, architectural,
cinematic, performative, sonic as well as spatial productions."
In cooperation with the artistic director, the artists and cultural
producers will create distinct spaces of information (called ”hubs”)
within the exhibition, according to 5 central themes: Migration, Urban
Conditions, Sonic Scapes, Fashions and Scenes, and Other Cinemas. In
these "hubs", the public will encounter a variety of information,
which is meant to help to differently ”read” the artistic
proposals.
Parallel to the exhibitions at KW Institute for Contemporary Art and
the Martin-Gropius-Bau (with a total of 4.500 qm), there will be about
30 film productions shown at Kino Arsenal on Potsdamer Platz.
