Jean-Michel Basquiat, exhibition at the Museo del Ron
In both venues there were more than 100 works made on paper. The shown works were created between 1979 and 1988 and belong to the Galerie Enrico Navarra (Paris).

Jean-Michel Basquiat came into the world as the child of a Haitian father and a Puerto Rican mother in Brooklyn, New York on December 22nd, 1960.

In 1977, he began spraying graffiti on New York subways with his friend Al Diaz.

In June of 1980, his works were shown for the first time in an exhibition (together with Jenny Holzer, Lee Quinones, Kenny Scharf, Kiki Smith, Robin Winters, John Ahearn, Jane Dickson, Mike Glier, Mimi Gross, David Hammons). In December of 1981, the first longer article on Basquiat appeared in Artforum ("The Radiant Child", by Rene Ricard). Further exhibitions attributed to the sudden success of the artist. His friendship to Andy Warhol began in 1983.

On the 12th of August, 1988, Jean-Michel Basquiat died at age 27 on an overdose of heroin in New York
