Plaza de la Catedral, La Habana Vieja
The Center for Contemporary Art Wifredo Lam is an institution for the study and promotion of the visual arts of Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Caribbean. It was established in 1983 and is the organizer of the Havana Biennial. Its name is an homage to the great Cuban artist Wifredo Lam (1902 - 1982).
The building, in which the Center has its seat, was the townhouse of the Counts of Peñalver in the 18th century and is located on Cathedral Square in Old Havana. Alongside offices for the employees, there are permanent exhibition rooms, a library for printed material as well as one solely for videotapes. |
