Written down by Pat Binder and Gerhard Haupt, based on an interview with the artist.

My work is a performance. It is called "The Orchestra of Death or How Death Orchestrates Your Life" and consists of a skeleton, as the symbol of death, which is used as a sound instrument. Depending on which sensor you touch, it emits a sound based on a circuit developed by the engineer Arredondo. And the Faculty for Engineering at the UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) and the Centro Multimedia have helped me to make this "peasant's dream " - to put it one way - come true.

My work is dedicated to my father, who died in September of this year (2000), and to my guru, Silvana Cenci, the dynamite woman. It is an experiment with which I would like to give several concerts in which I use death as an instrument of sound yet at the same time as that which also determines our lives.

What you are currently hearing is one of six programs I have brought with me. They correspond to six different "concerts" which offer diverse possibilities. The instrument creates images as well. These are a few animations created by the Mexican artist Juan Carlos Equigua.

The idea is to interact with the skeleton, to move it, to sit it on my lap, to kneel it down, to crucify it, thus to create various possibilities of meaning.
