The main theme of architecture alone made clear that the organizers of this Biennial wanted, among other things, to move the specific ambience of Havana into the participants' and guests' view even more than usual. Beyond this, a number of artists were invited to present works in the urban space. For understandable reasons, they concentrated in particular on the especially attractive areas of the city: the historic center included by the UNESCO in the World Heritage List of cultural properties and the coastal street, the Malecón.
According to the Centro Wifredo Lam, interventions in the public space will play an even more important role at the next Biennial.
