This interdisciplinary work by RAIN, a group of artists, architects
and curators founded in Los Angeles in 2000, is one of the special projects
of the biennial.
A structure of scaffolding runs through the Pabellón Cuba from the street
into its interior. The structure serves as both support and space for
the interventions of more than 20 artists and groups from various countries
who were invited to participate in the cooperative project.
At the opening however, the audience concentrated more on the spatial experience
of traversing the sometimes dubiously shaky walkways than on the individual
artistic works, which lacked the communicative power to stand out in
such an environment. In this regard "4D" is a typical phenomenon
of our time, in that the "scaffolding" of the discourse, the
codes and contexts of the art system, are usually more important that
the works themselves.
The project could certainly develop its greatest effect as a
catalyst for encounters: performance festival, lectures and podium discussions,
video projections, concerts, etc.
