Death of the Subject, 1996 Oil on canvas, 155 x 120 cm. |

The title »Muerte del sujeto« is a play on words: sujeto means subject as well as person. In the background, one sees the architecture of the art college in Havana (ISA). In much of his work, the art college is presented by Camejo as a cultural ghetto. He criticizes the obsession with which many students work to obtain the attention of international institutions and entry to the art market. The falling picture is a work by the French pointillist Georges Seurat (1859 - 1891), whose style of painting Camejo copies. |
