The work centers around the pedraplenes, the rock dams which connect Cuba with small islands. They were thrown up in order to better use them for tourism. The government denies the resulting threat to the ecological balance, and praises the dams as a step toward progress. In Abel Barrosos installation, the island is drained off its wealth over these embankments: coffee, tobacco, medicine, money from tourism... |
