This meeting was especially meant for art students. Invitations were extended to different learning institutions in Singapore: junior colleges, universities, art schools, and polytechnic schools.
In the auditorium of the Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts, one of Southeast Asia's leading art schools, the biennial's artistic director, Fumio Nanjo, presented the Singapore Biennial 2006 in the context of other international biennials - from the Venice Biennial and the documenta (Kassel, Germany) to the Yokohama Triennale in Japan, whose first edition in 2001 he helped to conceive as a curator.
After Nanjo, three co-curators, and general manager Low Kee Hong explained the concept and organizational aspects of the Singapore Biennial 2006, they presented the meeting's actual goal: to win art students and pupils interested in art as an audience, as information multipliers, and, most of all, as volunteer help for the biennial. In the framework of the biennial's Volunteer Program, young people can apply to participate in the following areas:
- The On-Site Volunteer Tour Guide Program
- The Public Outreach Program
- Artist Interns
- The Information Booth Staff
- Exhibition-Site Custodians
- The Administrative Team for the Secretariat
Further information and application forms can be found on the official website under 'Volunteers'.
