Nueve (Nine). 2003

"Nueve" takes its name from the favorite weapon (a semi-automatic nine millimeter pistol) of two rival Panama City gangs, who are deadly enemies. They call themselves "The Palestinians" and "The Band" and would immediately start fighting each other if brought together. The artist filmed both gangs at the same location, but of course not simultaneously. He asked them to sing a particular song by the popular rap artist The Rookie. In the Biennale, the artist projects the two videos next to each other, uniting those rivals, at least virtually.
