Low Kee Hong, a long time theatre practitioner (actor, director
and designer) having served as the Associate Artistic Director of TheatreWorks
(Singapore) is currently the Assistant Director (Visual Arts) NAC and
General Manager for Singapore Biennale.
He has spent many years researching, interviewing and filming Southeast
Asian traditional and contemporary artists looking at the relevance
and continuity of traditional art forms in the 21st century. Kee Hong
is also an active scholar, holding a Masters in Sociology with on-going
research interests in cultural policy, urban planning and architecture,
performance studies, vernacular and contemporary culture and arts of
Southeast Asia. He taught sociology at the National University of Singapore
from 1997 to 1999 and his academic writing has been published by Routledge,
amongst other critical journals.
Recipient of Best Director and Best Set Design at the 4th ST Life!
Theatre Awards in 2003, he has also been actively involved in theatre
criticism having written for TODAY, Arts Magazine and other web based
criticism journals. He sits on the programme advisory committee of the
Singapore Arts Festival and is a member of the Association of Singapore
Actors (ASA).
