This Taoist shrine on Pulau Ubin is dedicated to a German girl who died during the First World War while fleeing the British troops pursuing her family. Her father was apparently the administrator of a coffee plantation on the island.
Villagers found and buried her body, and whoever passed the grave offered the deceased his or her sympathy. In time, the dead girl was honored as a deity and the island dwellers built a small temple at her burial plot.
