In 1851 representatives of the Indian community purchased land from the British East India Company, on which the Narasinga Perumal Kovil Temple was erected in 1885. The estate grew enourmously through further purchases and lease agreements. Since 1907 the Mohammedan Hindu Endowments Board (MHEB) managed the Temple and decided in 1952 to replace the old building and completed the new one in 1966. The new temple was rededicated and renamed Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple. Beautifully decorated with many sculptures the gate tower was completed in 1979 with further additions and renovations in 1987, 1992 and 2005.

The Temple is dedicated to the god Vishnu.
