Mostly monster-like faces appear on the wall to the sound of the bells of the Han Shan temple in eastern China, which toll 108 times on special occasions. Lee interprets the Buddhist idea of reincarnation, in which people adopt the characteristics of their inhuman counterparts (fairies, demons, animals, etc.). |
